The C4L staff and Educational Therapists are specially trained in educational research-based programs. Their training is ongoing as they strive to help students with learning differences.

Shirin Ansari, Ph.D., CEO and Founder

Dr. Shirin Ansari is the founder of The Center for Learning and Behavioral Solutions in Irvine. As a School Psychologist with the Irvine Unified School District she acquired knowledge of and an appreciation for the educational approaches to solving children’s learning problems. As a Clinical Psychologist her emphasis on neuropsychology has inspired her to develop research-based techniques for the treatment of learning difficulties, processing disorders and language problems.

A firm believer in viewing a child from multiple perspectives, Dr. Ansari has pioneered a multidisciplinary approach in evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents. Her professional expertise allows her to integrate the four key disciplines of educational psychology, neuropsychology, clinical psychology and special educational into her understanding of each child’s individuality. This unique approach has a proven track record of success with students who struggle with learning. This approach has gained much recognition among the clinical and research communities. Dr. Ansari and her colleagues have done a number of research studies which have been published in some of the most prestigious medical and psychological journals including The Journal of American Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Orange County Psychologist.

Gregory L. Koch, Ph.D., Clinical Director

Dr. Koch is a licensed clinical psychologist and is the Clinical Director of services at C4L. In addition to his focus on neuropsychological assessment, Dr, Koch is a child and adolescent therapist and has 15 years of experience as a high school teacher. Dr. Koch is uniquely equipped to understand the connection between a child’s neurological and clinical profile and his/her educational and achievement potential. Dr. Koch provides psychological services to two independent schools through C4L (St. Margaret’s Episcopal School and St. Mary’s School).

Dr. Koch has participated in several research studies which have been published. He participates in several speaking engagements per year specifically providing parent trainings and teacher trainings in the areas of learning styles, working memory, ADHD, identifying red flags and how to maneuver the school systems regarding IEP and other special education needs.

Diana Karjoo, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Karjoo is a licensed psychologist who specializes in neuropsychological assessment. In addition to psychological evaluation, Dr. Karjoo has a passion for psychotherapy and counseling. Dr. Karjoo has many years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults who struggle with social-emotional issues. Specifically, Dr. Karjoo works on issues related to depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions (divorce, chronic illness, empty nest, and college and career transitions) and individual growth (stress reduction, women’s issues, relationship enrichment, and parenting).

Christina Ozaki, M.A., Director of Educational Therapy

Christina received her Multiple Subject Credential and Master’s Degree in Education from the University of California, Irvine. In the fall of 2003, she joined Center for Learning as an educational therapist. Her work ethic and dedication have carried her to various positions, including coordinator of our satellite centers at St. Mary’s and St. Margaret’s and to her current position as Director of Educational Therapy. Christina’s passions not only include working directly with students, but also for ongoing professional development for herself and her staff. She continues to pride herself in quality assurance of the educational therapy department as a whole. Christina’s enthusiasm and eagerness for success and confidence building in each child and staff member she works with makes her an asset to C4L and the families we serve.

Wendy Roberts, M.A., SLP Speech and Language Pathologist and Director of Assessment Services

Wendy Roberts is a Speech and Language Pathologist . She received her Master’s Degree and Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential in 1988 from San Diego State University. She has extensive experience with children and adolescents who have language and learning disabilities. Mrs. Roberts has been providing speech and language assessments as well as directing assessment services at C4L since she joined our staff in 2002.

Kelly Rafter, M.A., Director of Research and Development

Kelly Rafter holds a Multiple Subject Credential, Single Subject Teaching Credential in English, Administrative Credential, and a Master’s Degree in Teaching. Her passion for education has led her to teach various grade levels including second grade, fourth grade, and sixth grade language arts at Vista Verde K-8 School in Irvine Unified School District. She also served as Assistant Principal at Vista Verde School for one year. Kelly joined the Center for Learning staff in 2006 as a writing curriculum specialist to write programs as well as train educational therapists in best practices. In 2010 her role expanded and she currently works with students, conducts trainings for teachers and community members, assists in assessments, and seeks ways for the Center for Learning to serve new populations in Orange County.
